Six cubs were born in Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) of Madhya Pradesh in the past three months, taking total number of big cats there to 32.
"Three tigresses have given birth to six cubs in last three months. With this, the tiger population in PTR has gone up to 32 comprising 21 adults and 11 semi-adults," PTR field director RS Murthy said today.
PTR had almost became devoid of big cats in 2009 due to rampant poaching and other reasons, prompting government to launch a translocation programme.
Under the drive, tigers from other parks in the state were moved to PTR thus improving their numbers substantially.
