The rollout of the CBCS would figure prominently at the central university vice chancellors meet here on July 7.
The emphasis of the meet, chaired by HRD Minister Smriti Irani, would be on discussing the roll out of the contentious Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the ensuing academic session and the progress made by the central universities in this regard," officials in the HRD ministry said.
The officials claimed "most of the universities have put a mechanism in place to implement the proposed programme and the syllabi is being fine-tuned".
While universities including Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University have announced they would adopt the system in the 2015-16 session, their teachers' bodies are up in arms against the proposal, claiming the students are being treated as 'guinea pigs' for this experiment.
The meet would also deliberate on a 'common minimum curriculum' and constitution of a team of experts and eminent academicians by UGC for its formulation for undergraduate courses.
The VCs would also discuss a proposal to adopt at least five villages by the central universities under the 'Unnat Bharat Abhiyan' programme and completion of the process of accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Starting of region relevant vocation courses at the undergraduate level, launching programmes under community colleges, establishment of innovation clubs and discussion on 'inspired teachers network' are also on the agenda.
