6 dead in Egypt cafe as shopping centre wall collapses

Six people were killed when a wall of a shopping centre collapsed on a coffeeshop today in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria, state media reported.

Seven people were reported injured in the accident.

Egyptian authorities arrested three officials of the shopping centre -- its director, head of security and the builder, they said.

Egypt has seen a number of construction disasters over the years, many of them blamed on planning violations or bad maintenance.
