7 killed, over 15 injured as truck overturns

Seven persons were today killed and over 15 others injured when a truck carrying devotees for Ganpati idol immersion overturned on the Majevadi-Makhiyala Road in Junagadh district, a senior police official said.

Junagadh SP Saurabh Tolambia said that the accident took place this evening as the driver of the truck, which was carrying about 50 persons, failed to negotiate a sharp turn on a bridge, causing the vehicle to turn turtle.

While five persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries in a hospital.

The injured have been admitted to Junagadh Civil Hospital for treatment, police added.
