7 member gang arrested for cheating retd PF dept official

A seven-member gang, including a woman, were arrested here today for allegedly cheating a retired officer of Provident Fund department here of Rs 5,000 on the promise of providing him a car by booking it online.

On learning that a car could be purchased online from a person, the official contacted a man who asked him to deposit Rs 5,000 in a bank account as booking amount, police said.

He got suspicious when the man demanded more money and lodged a complaint with police

Investigation led to the arrest of the man and six others, including a woman, they said.
 

All of them were remanded to custody, police said, adding further investigations were on to ascertain whether any others were involved.
