8 Kerala pilgrims, stranded in J&K, brought to Delhi

The last batch of Keralites stranded in Jammu and Kashmir due to flood were safely evacuated to Delhi, state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said here.

Chennithala who coordinated the resuce work of Keralities stranded in Jammu and Kashmir by staying in New Delhi, said the eight-member pilgrimage group, trapped in Birju Hotel, were safely taken to New Delhi today.

Information regarding these people was received when the resuce work was in the final stages, he said, adding, government would take steps to resuce if any more Keralities were still in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Chennithala decided to donate his one-month salary and all allowances towards the Jammu and Kashmir Relief Fund.
 

In a similar gesture, all staff members at the Minister's office also would donate their one-day salary to the fund, a press release said here today.
