A Bangladeshi convicted for illegal entry, hangs self

A convict, hailing from Bangladesh, today allegedly committed suicide at the Chanchalguda Central Prison here.

Ripon alias Mohammad (25) allegedly hanged himself using his clothes from the ventilator of a toilet late last evening.

"He attempted suicide by hanging himself from the toilet ventilator. Jail officials tried to save him and immediately took him to a hospital. However, he died," a senior jail official told PTI.

Ripon was arrested by Shahinayathgunj police here on January 31 on the charge of entering the country illegally. On July 23, a local court convicted and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment.

Further investigation is on.
