Voicing concerns over increasing crime in the national capital, AAP MLAs today raised the issue of non-constitution of thana-level committees in Delhi Assembly and demanded that the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung issues a notification in this regard soon.
AAP MLA Somnath Bharti moved a call attention motion during the ongoing Winter Session of the Assembly on the non-constitution of thana-level committees in Delhi.
AAP MLAs Alka Lamba and Bhawna Gaur also voiced their concerns on the delay in the constitution of the committees and stated that the same is pending as the notification has not been issued by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in this regard.

"During AAP-government's 49-day regime earlier, the thana-level committees were constituted within ten days. Now, it has been ten months and nothing has happened so far. The file is pending with the LG," Bharti said.
Delhi Home Minsiter Satyendra Jain stated that his department had proposed certain changes in the functioning and constitution of thana-level committees.
"A committee was formed and we had recommended certain changes. The draft was shared with the Lieutenant Governor and we are awaiting a notification from his office," he said.
The thana-level committees are constituted by order of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. Each committee is headed by the area MLA who represents the major parts of the jurisdiction of the police station, members of MCD/NDMC/Cantonment Board having jurisdiction of Police Station concerned, SDM, ACP, SHO of the area are the members.
The committees also include representatives from Residential Welfare Association (RWA), Trade/Industry Associations (if any), educational institutions, women's organizations, and representatives of Students and Labour.
The functions these panels perform include checking crime in their respective areas, resolving grievances and promoting police-public interaction among others.
Earlier this week, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal had written to LG Najeeb Jung urging him to notify the committees without any further delay.
