The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) today asked the central government to take urgent steps to check alleged growth of "al Qaeda elements" in Assam charging the state government with having "completely failed" to take action against anti-nationals.
A delegation of AASU, led by its advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, today met Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and alleged Bangladeshis come in different disguises and with different objectives.
"The elements of al Qaeda, the fundamentalists, the terrorists operating in Assam are all Bangladeshis," the AASU alleged in a memorandum submitted to Rijiju.
The students body alleged that, on one hand the illegal Bangladeshi migrants facilitate, along with a section of the politicians, entry of the illegal immigrants to grow their numbers in Assam and on the other hand, they were preparing to launch terrorist activities.
"We firmly believe that there are anti-India outfits working in Assam. They are taking advantage of the pro-Bangladeshi attitude of the Congress government in Assam. It is surprising that Assam government has failed to take any action against such anti-India elements," the AASU claimed.
