'Abhaneri' festival begins in Dausa tomorrow

A two-day 'Abhaneri' festival will be held at the Abhaneri village in Dausa district from tomorrow to promote rural tourism in the area.

The festival will witness artistes performing Shehnai Vaadan, puppet show, Behrupia, Raavanhatha, among others at Chand Baori and Harshat Mata temple on October 1 and 2 from 10 am to 5 pm, according to an official of the tourism department.

The Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan in collaboration with the Dausa District Administration organises the annual event.

On 1 October, there will be various cultural performances like Mayur Dance, Langa singing, Kacchi Ghodi, Behrupia, Bhawai Dance while on 2 October evening there will be a Kavi Sammelan performance by Abdul Ayub Gauri at Chand Baori (step well).
 

During the festival, Chand Baori will be decked up with flowers and lightings.

A large number of foreign and domestic tourists are expected to participate in the festival.

The Department will also provide the facility for camel cart rides for the tourists.

Chand Baori is one of the largest step wells built over a thousand years ago in the Abhaneri village of Dausa, 95 kms from here.

The beautiful structure was built during the 8th and 9th centuries and has 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect symmetry, which descend 20m to the bottom of the well.

Centuries ago, the stepwells were built in the arid zones of the state to provide water throughout the year.
