Academicians, intellectuals appeal to Centre to ensure women's

Academicians and intellectuals today expressed concern over the security of woman and appealed to the Centre to ensure their safety as they paid tribute to Nirbhaya on the fourth anniversary of brutal gangrape case.
Participants of the Group of Intellectuals and Academicians (GIA) asked the Centre to ensure safety of women and girls in view of rising crime against them in the city.
"A report of National Crime Record Bureau reveals that crime against women has increased by 18 per cent after Nirbhaya incident. In Delhi alone, such crimes have increased over three times," GIA convenor Monika Arora said.
Expressing concern over the current scenario, she said, "We appeal to the government to implement the recommendations of former Justice JS Verma Committee and Justice Usha Mehra Committee to ensure safety of women.
