An accused in the case relating to the vandalism of the memorial of P Krishna Pillai, founder- leader of the Communist movement in Kerala, at Alappuzha, surrendered before the Investigating Officer here today.
The accused Latish B Chandran, a former personal staff of Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, surrendered before the Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayaraj as per the order of Alappuzha Sessions court a few days ago.
Chandran is being interrogated, police said.
Unidentified persons had on October 2013 set ablaze the memorial and vandalised the bust of Pillai, founder-secretary of the Communist Party in Kerala when it was formed in 1937.
Pillai died after being bitten by a snake on August 19, 1948 while he was hiding in a thatched hut of a farm worker at Muhamma in Alappuzha, which was later turned into a memorial.
