Political leaders and social activists today lashed out at saffron outfits and the BJP government at the Centre over incidents of lynching and demanded a legislation to contain such cases.
"We want to talk about electricity, water and medical issues but the NDA government wants to talk about cows, goats, cow dung, 'love jihad' and anti-romeo squads," he said.
Criticising the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said that the fours years of the Modi dispensation have been very difficult for the country but "we will ensure that this is their last term".
"I had not heard about the word 'mob lynching' until four years back and now I hear about incidents of mob lynching everyday," he said.
Nagrik Adhikar Manch convenor Sebha Farooqui alleged that the BJP and the RSS were trying to muzzle the voices questioning the government.
"BJP-RSS want to silence anyone and everyone who question or protest against them," she said.
The Nagrik Adhikar Manch also submitted a memorandum addressed to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking his intervention into the increasing incidents of mob lynching and demanding a law against it.
The memorandum also stressed the need for strict action against individuals and organisations promoting mob lynching and to prosecute those spreading baseless rumours through social media and other platforms.
