Activists stage protest, demand law to contain mob lynching

Political leaders and social activists today lashed out at saffron outfits and the BJP government at the Centre over incidents of and demanded a legislation to contain such cases.

At a protest meet at here, senior leader and Rajya Sabha accused the NDA government of "inciting" mob-and "spreading" hate-crime.

"We want to talk about electricity, water and medical issues but the NDA government wants to talk about cows, goats, cow dung, 'love jihad' and anti-romeo squads," he said.

Criticising the Narendra Modi-led NDA government, Rajya Sabha said that the fours years of the Modi dispensation have been very difficult for the country but "we will ensure that this is their last term".

"I had not heard about the word 'mob lynching' until four years back and now I hear about incidents of mob everyday," he said.

CPI(M) accused the Centre of dividing the nation in the name of religion and spreading hate crimes and promoting incidents of mob lynching on the basis of rumours.

Nagrik Adhikar Manch convenor Sebha Farooqui alleged that the BJP and the RSS were trying to muzzle the voices questioning the government.

"BJP-RSS want to silence anyone and everyone who question or protest against them," she said.

The Nagrik Adhikar Manch also submitted a memorandum addressed to Rajnath Singh, seeking his intervention into the increasing incidents of mob lynching and demanding a law against it.

The memorandum also stressed the need for strict action against individuals and organisations promoting mob lynching and to prosecute those spreading baseless rumours through and other platforms.
