Press Trust of India Haridwar
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today called upon state governments to intensify efforts to create awareness about soil health among the farming community.

He asked the state governments to invest in soil testing and also in areas such as irrigation and farm mechanisation, an official statement said.

Speaking on the occasion of the World Soil Day at an event in Roorkee, Singh said, "We cannot produce quality foodgrains without the help of healthy soil."

The central government has initiated the soil health card scheme since 2015 and aims to provide soil health cards to all 14 crores farmers in two years, he said.

Soil Health Card promotes the balanced and rationalised use of nutrition on the farm, he added.
