AIIMS had spent over Rs 42 lakh on the renovation of the bungalow of its Director R C Deka who is embroiled in a controversy over allotting his quarters on the campus to his Professor wife from his discretionary quota allegedly overlooking seniority list of candidates.
The premier medical institution had spent over Rs 42.13 lakh on the renovation of the Director's bungalow in the year 2009-10 when Deka was appointed as its Chief, according to the information received under the RTI Act.
The reply received by activist Subhash Agrawal shows that major renovation work was undertaken for the bungalows of the Director, the Deputy Director, the Dean, the Medical Superintendent and the Senior Financial Advisor in which Rs 73.6 Lakh were spent.

The maximum expenditure, about 57 per cent of the total, was incurred on the renovation work of the Director's bungalow.
"There were no such guidelines provided during the time of renovation of the above mentioned flats/bungalows," AIIMS said in response to a query whether the funds for said renovations were spent according to rules.
On the question of information on rules for providing facilities and funds on renovation of residential accommodation, the Engineering Services Department of AIIMS said "no such rules was existing (sic) at the time of renovation of residential accommodations.
