The tussle over the '12 Tughalq Road' bungalow in posh Lutyens' Zone is not yet over as the government till date has not been able to take possession of the house.
The sprawling bungalow, type VIII, is currently occupied by Charan Singh's son RLD chief Ajit Singh who has not yet handed over the government property and has asked the bungalow to be converted into a memorial to his father, Chaudhary Charan Singh, a former Prime Minister, officials said.
The government, however, has rejected the demand, saying the Union Cabinet in 2000 had "banned" conversion of Lutyens' bungalows into memorials.
"Ajit Singh is yet to hand over the bungalow to us though we have information that all his belongings have been shifted now," said a senior Urban Development Ministry official.
The official said after vacating the bungalow it has to be surrendered to the CPWD and then it will issue a certificate after the clearance of all dues including power and water.
Singh, who lost the elections, was served an eviction notice and power supply to the bungalow was disconnected by the authorities last week.
Police on September 23 had barricaded several roads in the Lutyens' zone and shut down Race Course Road Metro station to prevent protesters from reaching the bungalow, for a planned meeting demanding its conversion into a memorial.
