Actress Alfre Woodard has been roped in to play the role of President in NBC's 'State of Affairs'.

The 61-year-old will feature in the new series, which has been described as a mix of other drama series like 'Scandal' and 'The West Wing', said the Hollywood Reporter.

The Oscar-nominated actress will play President Roberta Payton, who hires perfectionist Charleston "Charlie" Whitney Tucker, played by actress Katherine Heigl, to be her legal briefer.

The Joe Carnahan-helmed CIA drama will also star 'The Mob Doctor' actor Cliff Chamberlain.

It will be produced by Alexi Hawley, Heigl and her mother Nancy, Bob Simonds, Sophie Watts, Julia Franz and Rodney Faraon.

The casting brings Woodard back with NBC after her appearances on 'Hill Street Blues', 'St. Elsewhere' and the short-lived Geena Davis sitcom 'Sara'.
