Anita Behera, new mayor of Cuttack

BJD corporator Anita Behera today became the second woman Mayor of Cuttack following her unopposed election to the post.

The 37-year-old housewife, a resident of upper Telengabazar of the city, was elected as a corporator from Ward No. 21 in the elections held last week.

The election of Anita had become a mere formality after BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced her name for the post this morning.

The ruling party has won 36 seats in the 59-ward Council.

The election to the post of the city's Deputy Mayor is scheduled on March 1.
