Press Trust of India New Delhi
APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd) today announced the berthing of the largest container vessel with capacity of approximately 9,971 TEUs in the history of the port.

"Maersk Saltoro, a container vessel with an overall length of 299 meters was berthed at Pipavav Port today by the port's marine team," the company said in a statement.

It said the berthing of the vessel is testimony of the infrastructure capabilities APM Terminals Pipavav has built over the years in handling large vessels and cargo.

Last month, the port started RORO (roll-on/roll-off) operations with dispatch of the first lot of cars for export. Apart from the multiple capabilities, the port has connectivity to the rich hinterlands in the northern and western regions of the country via rail and road.

Commenting on the feat, APM Terminals Pipavav Managing Director Keld Pedersen said, "We look forward to handling many more such vessels in the future."

Gujarat Pipavav Port is part of an international network operated by APM Terminals BV an independent business unit within the Maersk Group.
