Arunachal Guv meets Def minister

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra held a meeting with Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi today and briefed her on the border security environment in the north eastern state.

An official communique here said Mishra apprised the defence minister about the high morale of the soldiers deployed in the Indo-China borders of the state and the coordinating interaction which he had with the GOC 3 Corps and the GOC 4 Corps, the Formation Commanders.

Sitharaman appreciated the Army's good work and welfare activities for the civil population in border areas, the communique said.

During the meeting, it was resolved that more welfare schemes will be introduced for the civilians by the Indian Army in the coming months.
 

At the initiative of the governor it was decided that eight villages which have been identified by the Army in the forward most segment of the international border, will be developed into self sustaining units with proper living amenities for the residents.

To Mishra's suggestion for early start of work for the Sainik Schools in the state the meeting decided that their foundation stones would be laid as early as possible and construction work would commence latest by February 2018.

The governor also met Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat at the Army headquarters and requested him to conduct pre-recruitment programmes in every Arunachal district to motivate and encourage maximum number of able youths to join the Indian Army, the communique said.

"This will not only provide ample employment avenues to the youth of Arunachal Pradesh but also give them an opportunity to serve the country," he said.

Rawat assured that Army teams will go to every district to help the prospective army recruitment candidates in documentation, physical fitness and train them to compete in the recruitment, scheduled to be in February 2018.

He instructed the Director General Army Recruitment, who was called in the meeting, to render all help to the youth in Arunachal Pradesh so that they can be selected for the Army, the communique added.
