Opposition Congress Friday alleged that attempts are underway to portray as minors the accused involved in the gangrape of a Scheduled Caste woman in the district last month.

"The authorities concerned are trying to portray the accused in the gangrape case as minors though they are majors," Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee's SC cell chairman Arepalli Mohan stated in a press note.

Mohan also demanded from the state government Rs 10 lakh compensation and a government job for the woman, besides allotment of three acres of land to her kin.

He said a representation has been made to the National Scheduled Castes Commission chairman P L Punia for conducting a detailed enquiry.

A 22-year-old woman, studying for police recruitment examination at a coaching class in the district, was allegedly gangraped by a youth and a teenager last month. Another teenager had allegedly recorded the act on his mobile phone.

The incident had taken place on the outskirts of Veenavanka village on February 10 when the three youths, the complainant, and her woman friend were returning home after watching a movie.

While one of the women was raped on a hillock, another managed to flee.

Police arrested the youth, identified as G Srinivas on February 28, and took the two teenagers into custody.
