Awareness programme on Down syndrome in national capital

The National Trust, an autonomous organisation under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, today organised an awareness programme on Down syndrome and Autism at 100 traffic signals in Delhi and NCR.

Large number of NGOs working in the field of disability participated in the campaign between 8 AM and 11 AM, a press release said.

While April 2 is celebrated as World Autism day, March 21 is observed as World Down Syndrome day. Making use of these occasions, National Trust spreads awareness, the release added.

Down syndrome people have one extra chromosome in their body, which affects the development of their brain. However, people with above conditions can learn many needed skills that are required to live a fuller life, it added.
