Eight years after foiling the terror attack on Ram Janmbhoomi in Ayodhya, in which five terrorist were gunned down, the then SSP and three policemen have been chosen for President's police medal for gallantry this Independence Day.
13 policemen and officials from Uttar Pradesh police will get President's medal for gallantry this Independence Day, said IG law and order R K Vishkarma here.
For the attack in Ayodhya, the then SSP, Avinash Chand (now IG), Additional Superintendent of Police Vishambhar Dayal Shukla (now SP), ASP Sarvesh Kumar Rana and DYSP Rajiv Narain Misra (now ASP) have been selected for the President's medal, Vishkarma said.

On July 5, 2005, five terrorists attacked the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya. All of them were killed by the security forces.
"Six policemen, who had died in an encounter with Thokia dacoit gang in Chitrakoot in 2007, will also be honoured" the officer said.
The six, who will get the medal posthumously for the encounter with the gang are Rajesh Singh Chauhan (head constable), Brijesh Kumar Yadav, Uma Shankar Yadav, Girish Chand Nagar, Laxman Prasad Sharma and Ishwar Dev Singh (all constables), he said.
Besides these 13 for gallantry medals, seven will get President's police medal for distinguished service and 73 others will be honoured with police medal for meritorious service, he added.
