With the intervention of District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) here, a-month-old girl was today rescued from an eunuch and handed over to the baby's grand mother.

"We recovered the baby girl from an eunuch and left her under the custody of her grandmother near Cuttack railway station," DCPO Pragati Mohanty said.

Stung by the media reports about a middle-aged Tamil woman, who was not in a very sound frame of mind, having sold off her new-born for Rs 500 few days back, the DCPO conducted an inquiry and the girl was traced in the custody of an eunuch in Tangi area of the district.

Although, the eunuch claimed that there was no monetary deal in the incident, the DCPO said only a thorough probe could unearth the whole truth.

The Tamil family was staying in a slum near the railway station for over five years now.
