Punjab government today said it has cleared the backlog of old age pensions for the last two months.
"Punjab Finance department today released an amount of Rs 90 crore to be disbursed among 16.40 lakh beneficiaries of the state," Social Security Minister Surjit Kumar Jayani said.
With this, old age pension for the month of September and October have been released, he said.
The Minister directed the officers at the district levels to ensure timely disbursement of the financial assistance to the pensioners.
He said that state Social Welfare Department has linked the bank accounts of the pensioners with Aadhar cards to weed out fake claimants.
