In a letter to Joshi, the Chief Minister said with the commissioning of Guru Gobind Singh oil refinery, Bathinda had emerged as a petro-chemical hub in North India.
Setting up of a Central varsity and a Hotel Management Institute in Bathinda had further necessitated the need for introducing a Shatabdi train on Bathinda-Delhi route via Jakhal-Rohtak, he said.
Badal said people from other states frequently visit Bathinda as the Air Force Station and Army Cantonment are located here, according to an official spokesman.
The Chief Minister said the train was all the more necessary as a large number of people from the area have to go to Delhi for boarding international flights.
