The police today failed to submit the case diary in the arrest of Hitunnesha Bibi, the victim of alleged police torture at Sattor village in Birbhum district, her husband Sabur Seikh and four others, though there was a court order, pleading that it needed time to interrogate the accused.

Following this, the court of Suri CJM Indranil Chatterjee rejected the bail prayer moved on behalf of the accused.

The police said that its officers were interrogating the accused at the Suri District Correctional Home and needed more time to finish the exercise.

Kuntal Chatterjee, Assistant Public Prosecutor of Suri CJM Court, said "the police told the court that it needs to interrogate the accused. For this, they could not submit the case diary."

The court observed that as it was a very serious case unless the case diary was submitted, the bail petition could not be heard, the APP said.

The court today ordered the police to submit the case diary on July 13.
