Banned currency notes worth Rs 2.46 crore seized, six held

Banned currency notes worth Rs 2.46 crore were seized from Perinthalmanna in the district today and six persons arrested in this connection, police said.

Acting on a tip off, a police team intercepted two cars proceeding to Perinthalmanna fromErnakulam, at EMS hospital around 11 AM and found the demonetised notes of Rs 1,000 concealed in two bags, they said.

The occupants aged 26 to 39 years were arrested under various sections of CrPC and sections 5 to 10 of Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, as they could not account for the seized currencies, they added.

The cars used for transporting the money were impounded, police said.
