BJP today demanded immediate convening of assembly session to discuss problems of sugarcane growers and social tension prevailing in western districts of the state.

"BJP demands immediate convening of the Vidhan Sabha session to discuss these problems and time has also been sought to made a request in this regard to the governor B L Joshi," BJP legislature party leader Hukum Singh said.

"These issues would be discussed on the floor of the house and members would be able to give suggestions to find a solution, " Singh said.

Lashing out at the government and private sugar mills refusing to start crushing, Singh said that farmers were facing problems from all sides.

"The government should have started the process of talking to private millers much earlier", Singh said adding that farmers would not be satisfied with lodging of FIRs against four to five mills and their problems would be solved only when crushing starts.

Alleging that social tension was prevailing in six districts of western UP, Singh said that as many as 16 farmers have been killed in past one-and-a-half month and no arrest yet made.

The BJP leader charged the government with following divide and rule policy and creating chasm among the people and khaps.

Singh said BJP was ready to launch agitation for the farmers and would go to any level for getting their problems resolved.

To a question, Singh said that government should seek a clarification and suspend the officials on whose report NSA was invoked against two BJP MLAs on flimsy grounds in connection with Muzaffarnagar riots.
