Mumbai BJP secretary Vivekanand Gupta urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today, to scrap the Metro-3 project and implement the coastal road project instead, in a letter written to the CM.

"The Metro-3 project is worth Rs 23,136 crore as of today and there are chances that costs will escalate. A whopping amount will be spent on the Metro but it will cover an area of only an upto western suburbs near Aarey and also take five years to complete. So, I request you to scrap the Metro 3 project," Gupta has written to Fadnavis.

"The coastal road is a better alternative and will be completed in two years. The coastal road is cost effective, since its estimated cost is Rs 8,500 crore, which is just one-third of the Metro 3 project," Gupta stated in his letter.

"The coastal road is planned as a freeway from Nariman Point to Kandivali. While its alignment accounts for the Bandra-Worli sea link, which has been in use since 2009, connectivity to Versova is proposed through reclamation and a roads on stilts, overlooking the Bandra-Versova sea link plan," Gupta's letter stated.

Meanwhile, a delegation led by Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar met Fadnavis today and asked him to ensure that trees are not cut for a car shed of the Metro-3 project in Aarey Colony.

"Fadnavis said that the government will set up a committee to decide about the proposed car shed at Aarey Colony," Shelar said.
