BJP today expressed strong opposition to a remark made by a senior Congress member in the assembly holding it responsible for what he termed as "judicial mutiny" and linking it to a case related to BJP's national President.
The party also demanded that the remark by K N Rajanna be removed from records.
The issue came up when Rajanna was speaking on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address.
The congress member attacked BJP, saying the trouble in judiciary was because of changes made in the bench to hear a case relating to the death of special CBI judge B H Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.
"BJP has created a new record. They have created a situation where judges had to conduct a press conference... they triggered judicial mutiny," he said.
"...all this happened because justice Loya death case bench was changed, and Loya was hearing a case in which BJP national president was involved," Rajanna said.
Taking strong exception to this, BJP wanted to know whya issue that had no connection with the Governor's address andabout a person who was not present in the House was being raised.
Opposition Leader Jagdish Shettar raised a point of order and demanded a ruling from the Chair.
Deputy Speaker Shivashankara Reddy, who was in the Chair, said he has reserved ruling on the issue.
Rajanna then hit back at BJP for citing rules when he had not named any person.
"Why are you citing rules, when you want to change the constitution itself (referring toUnion Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde's remarks)?"
Shettar then said, "if you are referring to a person who is not present in the House and making allegations, even we can say that Congress President Rahul Gandhi and former party president Sonia Gandhi were out on bail in connection with National Herald case."
The issue of political opponents being booked under the "rowdy sheet" (list of rowdies) once again led to arguments between ruling andopposition party members today, as Rajanna during hisspeech tried to refer to US visa being denied to Narendra Modi before becoming Prime Minister.
"Yesterday you (BJP) wanted to know who and leader from which party are in rowdy sheet. Most of us have gone to, but none of us were denied visa....but some one was denied visa until he became the Prime Minister," he said.
Reacting to this, BJP MLA C T Ravi said now the same US is extending a red carpet welcome to the same person.
"This shows the mentality of a party that favors only one family, is insecure about a tea seller becoming Prime Minister," he said.
As Rajanna referred to the prime minister's recent remarks linking pakoda (snack) selling and job creation), Ravi again hitback, saying "when a tea seller can become the Prime Minister, when cattle grazer can become the Chief Minister,what is the issue with pakoda seller.
