Boy swept away giant waves

A four-year-old boy died today after he was swept away by giant waves at Kolachal-Kotilpaadu sea coast village, even as sea water entered several villages near the sea shore in and around Kanyakumari, police said.

The body was washed ashore.

People demanded that government take steps to put up walls to block the sea water from entering the houses.

People in several hamlets in Kanyakumari district had to leave their houses as the sea water entered the hamlets around midnight last night, police said.

Normal life was affected in many areas due to incessant rains in the district, police added.
