The foreign relations and defence commission of Brazil's lower house has authorised an official trip by legislators to go to Moscow to interview National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden about spying on Brazil.

However, officials say no date has been set and it would require the approval of Russian authorities for the Brazilian delegation to speak with Snowden.

Deputy Ivan Valente said yesterday that officials must speak with Snowden because revelations of NSA spying on Brazil have shown "the total vulnerability" of communications for the government and private citizens alike.

Reports based on leaked Snowden documents indicate Brazil is the top Latin American target for US spying.
