Keeping the safety of its consumers in mind, BSES Yamuna Power Limited has decided to replace its existing oil-based transformers with 'dry' ones in select residential areas and commercial buildings in East and Central Delhi.

"These oil-based transformers are being replaced with their dry counterparts in several residential and commercial buildings, keeping the safety, environmental concerns and fire hazards in mind," said a BYPL official.

He said oil-based transformers have been replaced already with the safer dry transformers in 35 group housing societies and commercial buildings in East and Central Delhi.

"The dry transformers have many advantages both for the consumers and the discom - over their oil-based counterparts. Main among them is elimination of fire hazards. As the name suggests, 'oil-based' transformers contain mineral oils, which are combustible in nature and any leakage can be a potential fire-hazard," the official said.
