Businessman held, large haul of foreign liquor

A businessman was arrested and a huge quantity of foreign liquor stored by him for sale during ensuing polls was seized by excise personnel in Odisha's Kandhamal district, police said today.
On a tip off, an excise squad with the help of police raided the house of local trader Hadibandhu Sahu in K. Nuagaon area yesterday and seized 190 cartons of beer each containing 12 bottles worth over Rs two lakh, Excise Superintendent S S Gantayat said.
The seized 2280 bottles of foreign liquor of different brands were bought illegally by Sahu from Berhampur for selling the same in the open market during coming election period, Gantayat said.
The accused was sent to the Balliguda sub-jail after a court rejected his bail application.
