A local court in Chhattisgarh's Durg district today awarded death sentence to seven people including a couple in a case of human sacrifice.

The district judge Gautam Chaurariya found all the seven accused, namely, 'witch doctor' Ishwari Yadav (42), his wife Kiran (35) and their 'disciples' Mahanand Yadav, Rajendra Mahar, Nihaluddin, Sukhdev Yadav and Hemant Sahu, guilty.

Public Prosecutor Sudarshan Mahalwar told PTI that on November 23, 2010, Chirag, the 2-year-old son of Poshan Singh Rajput, went missing while playing outside his house in Ruabandha area of Bhilai Nagar.

During the search, family members and neighbours heard loud music coming from their neighbour Ishwari Yadav's house.

On suspicion they entered the house, and found blood stains, bowls of blood and chopped body parts in a room, he said.

The child's body was recovered buried in the room following Ishwari's interrogation.

A case was registered under Section 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping in order to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) and other sections of IPC against 12 people, including four minors, he said.

Eleven of them were arrested while one person named Tambi was still at large, prosecutor Mahalwar said.

Of the minors, three are Ishwari's children. Their cases are now before the juvenile justice board.
