Eight years after the death of a youth in an alleged fake encounter case, police have registered a case against eight people, including four policemen, on the direction of a local court.

According to the complaint filed yesterday, Waseem, 25, a native of Muzaffarnagar district, was allegedly picked up and killed on May 25, 2005 in a police encounter in Moradabad.

The court while hearing an appeal of the victim's mother had recently asked police to register the case against eight persons including SHO (Minranpur) Rampal Yadav, sub-inspector Mavi Singh and two policemen Rampal and Abid.

Hashim, Waseem's mother, had claimed that she had approached the police after the encounter, but they had refused to file a complaint.

The state government had two years ago provided a compensation of Rs five lakh to her on the recommendation of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) but no action was taken against the accused, she had claimed.
