An additional chief metropolitan magistrate today kept in abeyance an application filed by CBI seeking warrants against 43 persons in connection with communal riots in the Gopalgarh district of Bharatpur.
The court was of the view that CBI was competent under the law to arrest the accused persons and there was no occasion for a special intervention by it to issue warrants in the case against, among others, political leaders Zahida Khan and Anita Gurjar.
Ten persons were killed in police firing due to communal tensions in Gopalgarh in 2009.
