CBI registers FIR against preventive officer of Customs

The CBI has registered a case of corruption against a preventive officer of the Customs for amassing assets worth Rs 24.64 lakh that are allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Parmanand Singariya, preventive officer, the Department of Central Excise and Customs, Mumbai was booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for possession of alleged disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 24.64 lakh during the period from November 1, 2013 to October 31, 2017, the agency said in a statement.

It said searches were conducted today at the residential premises of the accused in Mumbai and Sojat City in Pali district of Rajasthan, which led to the recovery of Rs 17 lakh in cash, US dollars worth Rs 1 lakh, fixed deposit receipts worth Rs 16 lakh and credit balance of about Rs 14 lakh in different bank accounts and other investment papers.
