Chhattisgarh State Election Commission today said it has recommended the removal of collector of Dantewada district for defying its directive during the ongoing panchayat polls.

"I have recommended to the chief secretary Vivek Dhand that collector K C Devsenapati be removed for defying the lawful orders of the commission and dereliction in discharging duty," State Election Commissioner P C Dalei said.

Dantewada district had been chosen for an award for the exemplary implementation of MGNREGA, and Devsenapati had sought permission from the Commission to go to New Delhi to receive it on February 2.

"The collector's request was turned down citing the fact that election is underway....The district is more sensitive due to the Maoist problem," said Dalei.

However, the collector still went to the national capital, following which the SEC issued him a show-cause notice. His reply was not satisfactory, the SEC said.

"I have asked the chief secretary to appoint a new collector and take disciplinary action against Devsenapati," he added.

The four-phase elections started on January 28 and the final phase would be held on February 6.
