Chhattisgarh govt to withdraw controversial land bill

In the face of opposition, the in the state today decided to withdraw the ChhattisgarhLandRevenue Code (Amendment)Bill, 2017.

The bill, which facilitated purchase of tribal land for projects, had been passed by the Assembly last month, and sent to the for his assent.

The state cabinet, at a meeting chaired by chief minister today, decided to withdraw the contentious bill in consideration of the sentiments expressed by leaders of tribal communities, official sources said.
