Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed the officials to prepare a time-bound plan of action to make the state power-surplus by 2018.
Rao, who held a review meeting with senior officials, said 21,350 MW of thermal power should be produced in the state by the end of 2018. It should go up to 24,000 MW by adding hydel power, a release from his office said.
Presently, 4,300 MW of power is available against the demand of 6,000 MW, he said.

Noting that an additional 2,000 MW of power would be available by the end of the year, he said it would reduce the shortage.
Observing that some inconvenience to the farmers was unavoidable during the rabi season, Rao asked the officials to give priority to the agriculture.
He asked the officials to purchase power from the market.
Rao noted that 1,000 MW of power from Chhattisgarh and another 1,080 MW from state-run Singareni Collieries would be available by 2016.
He also asked officials to finalise MoU with Chhattisgarh which is ready to supply 1,000 MW of power.
