More than 600 representatives from over 30 countries and regions will attend a three-day international conference on Buddhism beginning tomorrow in Baoji City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

This is the first time Bangkok-headquartered World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) is holding its general conference in the Chinese mainland.

The 11th Panchen Lama, Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu and chief abbot of Japan's Sogen-ji Temple, Nichiyu Mochida are among the Buddhist leaders who will attend the event, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Deputy secretary general of the Buddhist Association of China, Zhang Lin, in a media briefing, today said that the event will be a milestone for friendship between the association and the WFB and it will help Chinese Buddhists play a bigger role internationally.

The event, the 27th of its kind, will focus on Buddhism and charity.
