A 52-year-old Chinese woman, suspected of killing a neighbour's five-year-old child out of jealousy due to his good health, has been detained in central China's Henan Province.
Li Xiuling, allegedly strangulated her neighbour's son and buried him at her garden in Haocun village because she was jealous of him being healthy while her own bedridden grandson suffered from muscular atrophy, a muscles degenerating disease, the county's procuratorate said.
A procurator said Li admitted that she lured the boy to her home and killed him, and later, she felt regretful about her actions.
The boy, identified as Wang Minghan, disappeared when he was playing near his doorstep on July 8. Only his slippers were found at the scene, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The news of the missing had boy attracted national attention. People shared the boy's photo via instant messaging service to help find him.
