Chrysler's South Africa CEO shot during robbery

Johannesburg, Feb 13 (AP) Chrysler Group LLC says its CEO in South Africa was shot in the abdomen during a robbery in the country and is responding to medical treatment.
Chrysler spokesman Richard Sloman said today that CEO Trent Barcroft was shot Saturday during a robbery outside of Johannesburg. Sloman said that Barcroft, a United States citizen, was still in intensive care at a hospital today but was responding well to treatment.
A spokesman at the US Embassy in South Africa said it was aware of the shooting, but had no comment.
Violent crime remains a widespread worry in South Africa. A US Embassy employee was stabbed to death in January.
Chrysler, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, is majority owned by Italy's Fiat SpA. It is the No 3 car manufacturer in the US. (AP)
