The CID of the West Bengal Police today took charge of the investigation into the alleged torture of a woman, relative of a BJP worker wanted in a bomb attack case, by policemen in Birbhum district.

A four-member CID team, led by SSP Soma Das, reached Sattor village this morning and visited the house of Sabur Seikh whose wife Haitunnesha Bibi was allegedly tortured by policemen on January 17, the police said here.

The state government on January 20 had informed Calcutta High Court that it would hand over the case to the CID to ensure free and fair probe as the allegations were against district police personnel.

Seikh Sabur, husband of Haitunneshwa Bibi, in a police complaint alleged that the police took away his wife from her parent's house at Kalmadanga village under Ilambazar police station after failing to trace BJP activist Mithun Seikh, Bibi's nephew, who is wanted in a bomb attack case.
