A court here in Maharashtra has
awarded five years' rigorous imprisonment to a woman employee of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for taking bribe.
District Judge P P Jadhav, in his order on Wednesday, also imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 on the accused, Sunanda Gaikwad.
According to the prosecution, Gaikwad, an office assistant in CIDCO's estate department, and two others were caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Thane while taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 on June 6, 2012.
They were taking the bribe from a representative of a housing society in Navi Mumbai area for transferring the plot from the builder in the society's name for conveyance deed.
The judge observed that the prosecution successfully proved charges against the accused under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
"Hence, she needs to be sentenced," he said.
Two others, Sanjeev Dhole, an estate officer of CIDCO, and his associate Sunil Sarkar, who were also tried in the case, were acquitted by the court for want of sufficient evidence.
