A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a Class 12 student on the premises of a government school in North Delhi's Civil Lines area, police said today.

The incident took place in the KG classroom of the Ludlow Castle School, which is the oldest school of the city.

"The accused, identified as Mohd Zubaid (19), has been arrested after a case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the IPC was arrested after the victim identified him," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.

The school's primary section functions till 12:30, while senior classes continue till 3 PM.

It was the last period for the KG students and their teacher had not come. Taking advantage of the situation, Zubaid went to the classroom, asked the other students "to keep their heads down" and then sexually assaulted the girl, a police officer said.

"The girl reached home and narrated the ordeal to his parents who then reached the school and approached the principal. School authorities then called police. The girl did not know the accused by name but identified him when she was asked to identify him," the officer said.
