As part of measures to strengthen security and check crime, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed across Hyderabad city in the next three months, Telangana Government said today.
"Installation of CCTVs in London has brought down crime rate by as much as 80 per cent. As part of security measures, CCTVs will be installed in Hyderabad city in the next three months," Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said.
Every inch of the capital city, an IT hub which also houses several vital installations, will be mapped round-the-clock through surveillance cameras, he said.
Rao was speaking after dedicating a fleet of patrolling vehicles (100 four-wheelers and 200 bikes) for use in Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits to improve the surveillance and response time under the 'Safe and Smart City' initiative.
The Chief Minister appealed to people residing in apartments to install CCTV cameras in their housing societies and coordinate with police in security matters.
An integrated Police Headquarters will come up at Banjara Hills here on an 8-acre site, he said.
The patrolling vehicles equipped with latest gadgets, including GPS, will enable police personnel to reach people quickly after receiving crime-related complaints, the CM said.
DGP Anurag Sharma assured to live up to people's expectations on tackling crime. "We have been provided with latest facilities and we will not let you (CM) down," he said.
Telangana Home Minister Nayini Narsimha Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and his Cyberabad counterpart C V Anand Rao were among those present at the event.
