Opposition Congress corporators of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) today staged a dharna in front of the office of the chief executive officer (CEO) of the civic body here and alleged that monthly of CMC council had not been held even once in the past six months.

Holding placards, the Congress corporators raised slogans against the ruling BJD and later submitted an 18-point charter of memorandum to the CEO Gyana Das.

"The last council meeting was held in December 2015 and business was transacted on that day as the council witnessed pandemonium over the then Mayor Anita Behera's involvement in ration card row," the memorandum said adding that its administrative functioning has been severely affected.

The memorandum also highlighted civic problems faced by citizens, including the condition of th city roads due to unplanned work undertaken by JICA to give a new lease of life to city's old sewerage and drainage problems.

Stating that the city roads have now turned into death traps, it claimed that at least three persons have lost their lives due to poor roads.

The Congress leaders also highlighted the ration card row, de-siltation of drains, poor sanitation in the city, hoarding tax fraud, poor distribution of old-age and other aids, mosquito menace, water logging and dark city roads.

Asked, Das said he would make all-out effort to solve the problems.
